Look at what I found today - Baby Opossums

I tried not to interfere, really, I did.

I saw one in a water bucket with the mother a foot away in the tall grass and by the time I got back with gloves it was out of the water, but the mother was still in the same place. I decided to just leave them there, but when I came back in a few hours the mother was clearly in distress, so I carefully gathered all three of them and placed them in a 100 gallon stock tank in the shade and covered it. About an hour later the mother was dead.

I went to remove her and saw that she had a dead and decaying baby in her pouch and that her mammary glands were big and full of pus, so I guess she had mastitis? She was also covered in fleas. :sick

Anyway, I got a call into wildlife rescue, so that's where they are going as soon as I get a call back. :D

Eek! I would give them a flea bath with dawn! I have 2 baby squirrels (sadly mother died) that we are raising and they had fleas but dawn got rid of them! It’s very helpful giving them a flea bath

With baby opossum you can't when they are so small. They will chill and stress to the point it will kill them.
You wrap a warm towel around them and the fleas will jump on the towel, remove it and repeat with a fresh one till they are off the babies.

Did you ever hear back from the rehaber?:fl
It's only 8 am, lol, so not yet. If I don't get a call back there is another place I can take them, but it's a much longer drive and I have to wait until traffic lightens up (I hate traffic).

Fear not, I did not bath them, but I did use one small drop of advantage and all fleas are gone. :D
