Well, dh is not a dog...
or is he?
LOL I am just kidding.
I've found that people who are
against crate training generally do not understand the social structure or denning instincts of dogs. In fact, potty training aside, I'll bet having a crate of his own would be very comforting to the dog based on the anxiety you described.
and you might be right on this...not the Dh being a dog part ahahahaha, the crate thing, but you see what is why I have two of them, cause usually once we try it the way he wants to do it and it so happens it doesn't work then we have them. the large one was bought for our Saint mix for when he was a puppy, we used all but one time cause he didn't like being in there and so he decided it was best to just go outside ahahaha. the medium one was for my turkish angora cat, who somehow slipped through the door a week before being fixed and came back pregnant. so I had to have something I could line with cardboard, add bedding and be able to move if the cat didn't like its location. now we use the crates to move chickens when we have to. which is next to never. Its good to have these crates cause you never know.
the large crate is a great brooder too

of course when we put in the removable walls that we built for it
We use our large dog crate for a brooder, too. In fact, I think our dog is a bit put out by that fact. I'm so glad you get my wacky sense of humor!
Even the medium crate would probably be too large. If you decide to use it (I mean when, lol
), definitely put in the divider.
