OMG - I love this thread

What a fabulous picture by picture account and comparison. I can't believe how orange the duck yolk is. Your chicken yolk is like mine, a lovely deep yellow. Compare that to shops where yolks are pale and insipid.

Love the dogs - how gorgeous! And the fork feeding

I would place a bet on the black duck laying the egg. It is green and the others will lay paler, perhaps even pure white eggs - wait and see!

I LOVE those comparison pictures--well done! Maybe it should be stickied for people who want to know more about the differences between duck eggs and chicken eggs. I knew they were different, but I've never looked at them side-by-side. I think I'll do something like this for my blog later this Spring, when my ducks are laying heavily again. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. In my mind, the duck eggs compare very favorably--chicken eggs are pale & runny! lol

I'd have to see if we can find a fresh chicken egg to do a real comparison. Several people on our road have chickens, so in theory, it could easily be done.
Our egg this morning was much smaller - still not tiny like some I've seen posted here, but smaller.

DH thought it was weird. I said 'Um, this is her 2nd egg ever. Her body will get the hang of it soon enough. In the meantime, we may be getting a variety of eggs from whoever it is."

Two eggs this morning!

(when I did the side by side comparisons, we posted them on our board as well and a few people said it wasn't a good comparison since I didn't use a fresh chicken egg from a free range chicken - hence the "horrible evil factory raised chicken egg)
All eggs so far, including the first one - shell was washed and sitting on the counter, so I taped it together to get a pic with size for the 3 bluish/greenish eggs)

Good point about the comparison! I thought that was an egg from one of your chickens. I'd love to see a farm-fresh chicken-to-duck-egg comparison. But I think what you've got is really good too, because most people who are considering ducks for eggs are currently eating factory chicken eggs--it's what they grew up on, what they are used to--and they want to know what they're getting into by switching to ducks. This is a great visual comparison.
