They might look ugly now, but as they start getting the feathers they will look nicer.

I had raised a pair of pigeons from the similar size to your ones.

Someone had been renovating a building and decided to chuck the pigeon next out - but they also decided to wrap the 2 chicks in newspaper and then put then inside a plastic bag and leave it on the street in the full sun!

When I got them they were so thin and weak and had pigeon pox all over them. They had problems digesting the food and were dehydrated. However they are amazingly tough birds! They pulled through and turned into 2 healthy adults.

You might want to try the method I used to feed them. I found it easier then the tube method. I just got a small plastic bag and cut a small hole in the corner (big enough for their beak to go in). I then made up the food (I had to use chick starter as I did not have that cage bird food in my country).

The pigeon fed (one at a time) by pushing their beaks into the bag - which I held up on a level with their heads. They then sucked down the food. Just be careful the food is not too hot.

As they got bigger I started adding seeds to the mix, and a tiny amount of bird grit.

They are so much fun to have, especially when they are learning to fly! They also get really tame and have no fear of you - they would chase me about the house begging the food! They would fly at the windows trying to get in if they saw anyone in the house. That freaked my friend out - it was like a horror movie 'the birds'.

In the end I successfully release them with a group of feral birds that live at our village temple. They used to come back to my house at 5am each evening for a feed, then fly back to the temple for the night. Gradually they started missing days out and coming less and less, and one came back for the last time with a 'boyfriend'. Now they are happy living their own lives and don't need me anymore.

Well done for what you are doing and hope everything goes well for you and them.

How could I have missed this thread?????

WOW! I'm glad that you were able to save them. They are definitely in the right hands to be cared for. :) I'm glad that they are gaining weight. This is going to be a great thread with updates. :pop

Sad news to report...

My cat slipped past me, went straight to the box and caught one. It's crop was ripped wide open and I didn't have any sutchering material, not that it would have mattered, 'cause it had a couple of deep puncture wounds and it was dead by morning. The other one is doing great, albeit lonely.
