Yup.. Dealing direct from the sawmill is a great way to get cheap wood.. BUT, it's green wood and will shrink.
I built a dog run out of rough sawn poplar and it was freakin cheap as all get out.. The pressure treated 2x and 4x4s cost more than the poplar boards.
I'm thinking about using the same kind of poplar to side the garden shed, when I start it next year..
I figure if I get the wood a few months ahead of time, I can sticker it and tarp it with clear plastic and dry it that way.
