the red eyes is not indictive of sex, I've had males and female with red eyes.

If you had read my other post you would have seen that I say that is not always reliable way but is a good indicator. I too have had both with red eyes.

Hello all,

Finally a subject on backyard chickens I can find myself as a expert on.

First: Your bird is correctly termed a whiteface lutino cinnamon. See the shading on her that almost looks like coffee stain? That is the cinnamon bleeding through. With two sex-linked traits, I'd put my money on her being a hen. Plus, after breeding thousands of cockatiels, I'd say she has the head shape of a hen. I have never seen dark eyed birds be male or redder be female. Just doesn't work that way.

Second: Cockatiels DO NOT breed for life. They are not monogomous and are rather opportunistic. I have had pairs breed, I put them up to breed and they start courting the neighbor next door.

Third: Lutinos do get bald spots but we've successfully bred most of the bald spot out of them. It was probably not caused by inbreeding but rather the first birds were already carrying that trait and it was set in by breeding two birds together. But, the actual inbreeding doesn't cause a gene to mutate (splitting hairs? Maybe but other it puts inbreeding in a bad light which most of the time inbreeding/linebreeding is acceptable when you have quality lines.

Fourth: Have fun with your bird! She looks like a cutie! Remember, bred to the whiteface, she'll give you 100% whiteface (unless he's split to lutino). Feel free to email me privately and I'll be happy to answer any more questions.

Leslie
