Nice goat! I didn't realize bears could be so destructive for no reason, unless it planned on eating all those goats which I doubt.

Hey Cluckawalla...I'm just over in Auburn and I also saw that ad and wanted to call, but didn't. My friend lives in Colfax and I was going to ask her if she'd ever had bear problems, but then she has a bunch of Pyr's, so I'm guessing not. Oh, you lucky girl! That's just the type of ad that makes me lurk about that darn craigslist every morning even though I'm over my limit of goats and sheep.

Awww how touching! She looks like my Cookie back on grandma's farm in Oregon. I hope I can bring her here this coming spring!

Poor thing! I can't imagine the terror of a bear attack that slaughters your entire herd. I'm so glad that she had a loving owner who has done the right thing by her. It's a great thing that she has a new safe home and a new herd.

She's a pretty girl. I'm sure you'll have many happy years together.

Cindy, the lady who lost all her goats, said she lives a bit higher than Colfax. They had a bear kill a couple of animals a few months ago and it was trapped, marked and relocated to Desolation Valley. It came back! She also lost animals to mountain lion. At this point she has given up on keeping animals until she gets a lifestock guardian dog or two. That is why I told her I would return the goat to her if she wanted. So we consider her ours unless Cindy wants her back. MY step daughter lives in Nevada City and they have horrible bear problems. One tore her garage door off to get to her trash can. They entire bottom of the door was just ripped off! She sent hubby pics of four bears in her yard Wed night! I don't want to live anywhere with bears! The hawks are driving me crazy enough.

By the way I grew up in Auburn, graduated from Placer in 1969, and my parents and sister still live there.

Good luck with your goats and sheep. They, like chickens can be addicting. Luckily, we live on one half acre zoned for hobby farming and we are limited to livestock weighing less than 75 pounds! If you read Craigslist you probably saw my ad for "two talented miniature goats" in recent months. I had to re-home two of mine. One was a cross of dwarf Nigerian with Nubian and he got way too big. He loved me more'n his luggage and kept jumping up and knocking me over. We just couldn't train him not to. I got knocked down and my shoulder dislocated the day after it was 109 degrees here! I laid out there for 45 minutes until I could drag myself to the fence and pull myself up. So unfortunately he had to go. We had to send another Nigi with him as they had been together since birth and were inseparable. They wailed if the other wasn't in sight and they were over a year old! So we knew we had to keep them together. I wish you had answered my ad. Then I could still come visit them!

Anyway, give me a holler now and again. Maybe we can swap eggs or something. Or you can drive over and slap my Mom when she needs it and save me the gas!

We've had a bear here before too; he kept knocking over our trash can and going thru it. I've never heard of your type of zoning before. I think I'm allowed 6 goats per acre, but pygmies are considered other household pets and you can have a bunch. Gosh, at a 75 pound limit, I think all of my goats and two sheep, with the exception of the two pygmies and Nigerian, weigh well over 100 and 200 for two of them. I'm lucky, I'm Mama, but if my husband dares to come out back with me, my first goat, Newton, a Nubian, goes after him like a jealous boyfriend. My husband is used to my pets being biased towards me and his shirt gets grabbed by my parrot if he gets too close to the cage.
My friend up in Colfax breeds and raised Great Pyrenees, so if that lady is ever interested, shoot me a message. How far did you have to drive to come get that little goat?

She brought her to me! I picked her up in Loomis where she works, ten miles from my house. Brought her home in the Hummer!
