Look what I got today....

Thanks PeepsCA, I can find 28-30%, but it doesn't have Amprol, so which would be better?

Balefire, did you get Purina Game Bird Startena? I think that is 28%, but it's not medicated right? I did talk to Sarah at Oley Feed and she wasn't sure they would have extra keets, I think they were all ordered ahead of time. I will check with her today & find out for sure, but still holding my breath that the people will come for the bantams!

Honestly.............I don't know what brabd it is, because I told the girl, I like to get 10 lbs of medicated Gamebird food and she gave me 2 5-lbs bags which where not labeled

Maybe I get my order and can share it with you

Well, and 25%-30% protein starter feed medicated with Amprolium is the best choice, but if you can keep them away from your other poultry... and not risk exposure to the organisms that can cause a Coccidiosis outbreak then I'd go for the 28%-30% protein... they will grow like weeds on miracle grow, just be sure to keep their brooder as clean and dry as possible.

That were my thoughts too, thanks for the advice. Now you are shipping and maybe next year I will put in an order for yur cuties. For this year we first need to build a chicken coop (next week in my vacation) and settle completly in after our move.

I have the keets and peeps on medicated chickenstarter right know, is that ok? The guy I got them from had them on layer crumble

The older ones are now on Fowl raiser, so that they can join the chicken soon.
Ugh that remind me to take some pics from them

The brooder of keets and peeps mixed should be on a higher protein, amprolium medicated turkey, game bird or pheasant starter crumble... the keets need more protein than chick starter provides to grow and develop at the proper rate, and the peeps will just pass the extra protein without any issues. Some people have issues finding the correct feed for keets, so I hope you are able to find what you need.

Good gawd, he was raising them on layer crumbles, lucky for those keets and peeps you rescued them!

Last year I weened my 6wk olds over from their medicated game bird starter to a 24% protein game bird mini pellet and kept them on it until they were 12 wks old, this year (since my local feed store that was always a very reliable supplier [and the only local supplier of that brand] closed down this spring) I am weening everybody over to Purina Flock Raiser instead that's only 20% protein and I can already see a noticeable difference in body size and feather growth rate when I compare last yr's pics with this yr's pics

I'm going to have to take a drive to the feed mill 2 hours away that makes the 24% protein game bird mini pellets and buy about 10 bags directly from them to get me thru the rest of my selling season, ugh (besides all my own personal keepers I also keep/raise some of the keets until they are old enough to be sexed, then I charge more for them, lol). So yah, keets really do need higher protein for the obvious growth rate reasons.

Have you thought of getting a whole sale license for feed since you are a breeder? Or you could form a co-op with one of your other guinea breeder friends and get together an order for a pallet of feed which is about a ton. There is a few people here in San Diego that wanted to get Organic feed straight from a mill in Riverside. They get together an order that equals 2000 lbs and it gets delivered by a common freight carrier. I don't know how they divide the freight between people. But I do know there are at least ten or fifteen people that chime up when its time to order. They order everything from Feed to grit to DE to fill in the poundage.
