Look what I got today!

I got ( hopefully ) two hens and a tom. BUT if I did get two toms, I can always EAT one and put another hen in with my order of chicks I've got coming in May. Anywhom, drove 2 hours one way today to get these guys. They're supposed to be out of 'exhibition stock'. Again, I know nothing of turkeys but I paid $75 for the trio not including gas. They're blue slates.... six-seven months old, haven't started laying yet. The one I know for sure is a tom (the dark one) attempted to strut earlier today. I about lost my mind, it was the cutest thing! Lasted about 30 seconds, and started over one of my curious george hens coming over to see what all the fuss was about while I was finishing their pens.

And here they are!!! Taken with my phone while they were in the holding pen waiting to be moved to a more permanent enclosure.


The two hens are in front, definite tom in back.


The hens. Neither have beards, but one is more red than the other.


Not liking the holding pen while I get their pen finished... Tom on the nest box ( which he BROKE), hens on ground.


Gobbling away. This was right AFTER he finished strutting.

Suspected second tom up front. Makes same sound as the one on the right, but is VERY red in comparison... and the carnackles(sp) are more prominant.

There is no way the darker one in the back is a Blue Slate.. Let alone a show Blue Slate!
The one you think is a tom kind of looks like a tom to me as well.

I hate to say it, but they all look like toms to me...

I hope they're not all toms... I'll try to get better pictures tomorrow. If they are all toms, I'm going to have two turkey dinners and have to find some more blue slates because I wont be going back to that lady.

I still think the dark one is female and the other 2 are males. Can be difficult to tell for sure at this age i have been fooled few times but i really think the dark one is female. i feel the other 2 are males. The wattle that hangs off top of head is thick and it is thin on females. Don't get frustrated Turkeys are very social. I truly love them and am sure you will too.

The snood does look small like a hen would have, but the coloring on the face and neck looks very male. And the caption under the picture says 'Gobbling away'. If it's gobbling, it's a tom.

Well, it was supposed to be a hen. BUT - It's the only one that's strutted, and he has done it two or three times. The one given to me as a male has been virtually quiet since getting them home, but I could SWEAR the whole way here IT was the gobbler!! Better pics coming after lunch.
