Not sure what area you are in but where I am from, you are legally allowed to shoot the dog in cases like this where livestock is threatened on your property.

Wow, I'm so sorry. I'm always worried about something like that happening. Things that might help in the future are to bury fencing (you can lay it down just underneath the surface of the dirt so if something digs all it will get is fence). If I saw that dog lurking around you could try an e-fence or sling shot too. So sorry again!

I am so sorry this happened to you.

I had stray dogs get into my coop/run and killed all but 5 chickens. They came back about a week later and killed 4. I have gotten new chickens its just not the same. A determined dog will make his way in.

I am sooo sorry! Oh, how miserable! I worry about the same thing. I have close neighbors all around me that have either hunting dogs (bird dogs) and 1 neighbor with 2 Chihuahua/terriers. The 2 little ones get chased out of the yard regularly. Fencing goes below the ground, but I still worry.

You have a picture of the guilty dog. Shoot it if it comes back. I would think you have legal grounds for it.

A neighbor a couple blocks away had a different neighbors dog get in and killed about $200 worth of birds. They didn't press charges (small community), but there was the strict understanding if it happened again the dog would be put down. I'm not so sure I could have been so forgiving.

Were the dogs rounded up and brought into the pound?

I just didn't think this would happen to me. They didn't eat the chickens just killed them!!!!! Yes If I ever found out who the dogs belong to. I was told by the sherrif that I can press a civil suit against them. I will do it!! Once again thank you all for the support. I think I'm going to hatch there eggs that I have. Wish me luck cause they have been in fridge for a day.

I'm sorry Big Red chicken, that's devastating! Horrible, horrible, horrible! I can't even imagine! Those dogs need to be found and someone should pay for the havoc and heartache they caused. So sad.
