Hi All,

This is my first time at using a Broody Hen to raise some chicks for me.

I went to check on Miss Katie May this morning and this is what I found
in the Kennel with her. The little one must have hatched early this morning.
What a nice way to start the day.

She still has 4 more eggs under her. This was the first little one to hatch

We let our broody hatch eggs for the first time this year and she is such a good mama (we are letting her free-range during the day in our backyard) very charming to watch and much easier than me brooding them in the house. Good luck with the other eggs!

Aww thats adorable!! I've always wanted to use a broody to hatch chicks! Good luck with the rest of them! :)

I have a question about this (and BTW yes, so cute!) We aren't there yet - our first pullets are still only about 12 weeks old. But when the time comes and the hen goes broody, do you hurry up and order eggs for overnight delivery, so you can give them to her ASAP?

Thanks, I am not sure about ordering eggs for a broody. I am sure that people do that. I have a rooster so the eggs that she
is hatching came from my own flock.

Once the rest of the eggs hatch and it stops raining, I am going to take them outside and let Miss Katie
show them the ropes. I am sure it will be a treat to watch her teach her babies how to be Chickens.
