Looking for a broody hen... which breeds?

So far, every one of my Langshans has gone broody in their first year of production.

You should get some Old English Game hens. They are very good broodies! I have one that had chicks when I got her in September. Since then she has hatched chicks 3 more times, and is setting on eggs again.

Or you could get an OEG/silkie mix, those are super broodies!! The one I have is not the best mama in the world, as she leaves her chicks too early, in my opinion, and she doesn't teach them to roost. But she turned 1 year old in February, and has hatched chicks 4 or 5 times since she first brooded back in August. The last time she brooded eggs, she hatched 10 of 12. The time before that she hatched 8 of 8

Very good broodies indeed!!

Anything with game or silkie in it will be very broody!

My hatchery Partridge Rock has gone broody twice.

I have 13 hatchery pullets (BRs, WLH, BSLs, EEs, RIR, & BVs). Both my barnelders went broody - none of the others did.
