I really like blue chickens so I'm looking to get some. I'm still new to keeping chickens, so I'm not sure what breed or even what my options are. I live in SW Florida, so I'm not looking at cold weather birds. Here is my list so far:

Orpingtons
Ameraucanas
Marans

Any suggestions? Additions? I'm hoping to get them this spring, since I want to get at least one run of hatching eggs under my belt first. I'm just researching right now.

Thanks

Well,
As far as I know, Blue in all of those breeds can be hard to come by, so start by looking up breeders, and getting on their lists NOW. It will be Spring at the soonest before you could even touch some of these birds (at least quality Blue Orpingtons, and real Blue Marans, such as Bev Davis has) Good Luck, research your breeders, and enjoy!
Chickens are great, and you have chosen some wonderful ones to work with!

I saw my very first Blue Plymouth Rocks on this forum and they are GORGEOUS!

I'm personally very partial to the Blue Orpingtons, but have also since hatched a Blue Jersey Giant and have 3 Blue Silkies! You also might want to look at the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte's. They are very lovely also.

We will have a great blue araucana flock this coming spring as well. The tufts on these are just gorgeous and you can't beat the colored eggs.

Okay, These are on the list:

Orpingtons
Ameraucanas
Marans
Jersey Giant
Blue Plymouth Rocks
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
araucana
Cochins
white Crested Blue Polish
Blue Andalusians

Any heat issues with these?
I'm really leaning towards some of Miss Prissy's Blue Orpingtons, But spring is a way's off, minds change.

Miss Prissy: Do you ship chicks or just eggs, and by when should I order? Prices? Feel free to PM if you would prefer...
