I'm looking for some ideas on cooking whole chickens. We are currently in the middle of butchering our cornish rocks. My husband doesn't want it to be on the rotisserie. Bu I've never cooked a whole chicken or turkey before. Looking for some ideas on recipes. Please help!

Just think of it as a mini turkey if you want to roast it. We like to do "beer can" chicken on the grill too.

I like to simmer whole chickens in a large pot on the stove. I lay it in the pot, breast up, mostly cover with water, add salt/ pepper/ and poultry seasoning and bring to a boil. I then turn down temp to med-low, cover & simmer for around 3 hours or until it will fall off the bone if handled. This gives us a nice white breat meat meal with stock to make gravy and enough left over meat & stock to make soup or a casserole.

DH got a recipe from a friend which we tried. You stick a whole bird in the crock pot & add a bottle of italian dressing. It was too strong for us [IMG] If you're a HUGE italian fan (which I thought I was lol ) it may be just right. I told him I'd try it again someday with the dressing diluted with water [IMG]

Google "All Recipes.com" Go to the tab for chicken recipes and there are a lot. This is a great website that people rate the recipes and give comments. I always try the higher rated ones and they are truly YUMMY!
