I'd go Barred rocks or Australorps. They are bigger, heavier birds with easy~going dispositions but I have no idea about their meat. Vegetarian.

Not sure on your set up but my buffs are a lot more predator aware than the Barred. We free range. Egg output is about the same for each. Barred might get an extra egg in a week..
