Looking for a winter watering system design.

Maybe if I tapped the hole it would have worked but the pipe was too hard for the nipple to bite with the tight curve of the pipe.
The horizontal nipples have such an extreme taper, I'm not sure what size tap to use as there isn't a set NPT or Metric size associated with them.
When I mentioned it to someone else that had done the same thing he told me the pipe diameter needed to be larger.

Yes, they won't self-thread well into PVC, like they will into a 5 gallon bucket or thinner walled jug(both HDPE), as PVC is a much harder plastic than HDPE.

They thread very nicely into an 1/8" NPT ( National Pipe Thread) fitting, which is a tapered thread, tho I haven't tested that installation for water tightness. I think thread tape or dope might be needed but am not sure as I haven't tried it myself.

I am in the middle of building pretty much what you are looking for. I am using 2" pvc and they horizontal nipples were able to bite into the pvc pretty well. I might silicone around it just for good measure though.

I have read in other places that if you use 1" or smaller pvc with the vertical nipples, there isnt enough water pressure to close the nipples so they will constantly leak.

Ahhhh, that makes sense..another plus for the HN's.

Do let us know if they need additional sealant (hopefully you try it without first).
