Ahh well, that's appropriate.

Yes, on the schnapps!

And, don't know who would spend that kind of money. There are 2 types of Marans buyers.
The kind that have $$ in their eyes, thinking they can buy a couple birds, and make a butt-load of money off the eggs (maybe assuming they will pay themselves off).
And the kind that have been waiting so long (on waiting lists and such), trying to hatch shipped eggs, to breed and add to the genetics program, to show, and realize APA standards, that they just don't want to wait anymore...and they pay whatever it takes. That's the point I was getting at before I got my eggs from Peachick. But STILL, only 4 chicks out of a couple of dozen egg$.

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of the first kind

Although my 11 cuckoos from Kelly Cratty line are due to hatch in less than a week

I really was never drawn to the cuckoos. I actually only got them to add the feather legs to the golden cuckoo line I am getting. I will add that the barring down the feathered legs are getting me hooked on them, they are just sooo cute. Did you get yours from Angi? Good luck hatching.....

Well, if anyone is in Maine I have at least 3 bc cockerals from someone that has Davis birds. I have yet to hatch any pullets from 2 different people that have birds directly from her(well 3 are only a week old and I am thinking I have only 1 pullet, that would make 5 cockerals

) . I don't want to ship them and I am keeping them until spring if anyone is looking then.........

YES! And it's actually seeing the pics of Angi's birds *and her advertising a special on the marans board!* that was the final straw. Like you, I wasn't drawn because they are so similar to other b&w barred birds. Slowly but surely, I WAS HOOKED!

I just candled about 5 random eggs and they are lookin' goooood. KNOCK ON woooood.

I found her on the yahoo marans board too. I hatched 6, looks like maybe 3 and 3. The color difference isn't as drastic as I have seen some post. At least not yet. The headspot is what I am going by for now.......
Oh, and the leg feathering(as in any marans I have hatched so far) ranges from almost none to some really nice, not overly done ones. Good luck with your babies, hope you have an excellent hatch!

I bought 16 eggs from the Morrow/Jeanne line, here is a pic of them, they are due to hatch at Christmas. I am very happy with the color, I hope they hatch... I hope they hatch..... I hope they hatch.......

When I was “investing” in Black Copper Maran eggs the most difficult decision I had to make is who has the best eggs for the buck, many people are selling them who will give the best service, pack the best, the best color, the best fertilization and the best hatch rate. Many questions go unanswered by a couple of pics on a free pic website. The only reason I started this site is to give some credibility to the small breeder.

Here’s how it works, email me that you’re interested in joining the site, send me 6-10 of your eggs, I will create a page on this website with any information you provide and give you an email address of your choice, ie. [email protected]. When the eggs arrive I will judge your packing, how many eggs came through the mail unscathed. I will judge your eggs color to the Marans scale then to the incubator they go, after they hatch I will then update your page with the hatch rate pictures included. I will then take pictures of the birds at the 3 month and 6 month stages and when your birds lay I will take pictures of the eggs produced.

Pretty simple and easy, all it costs you is 6-10 hatching eggs, your gain is a second unbiased source of information on the quality of your eggs and chicks produced. Email me at [email protected] for additional information.

Let me know what you guys think.
Peace,
Dave

P.S. I do websites, if you know of someone that needs one let me know.

In "theory" it's a good idea, especially for you. However what if you don't do good job incubating. You then report that the eggs weren't fertile, and ruin someones reputation. Seems like you'd be benefiting by getting lots of expensive eggs, but too many things could go wrong. I don't really see what's in it for the breeder, they seem to pretty much sell themselves.

Bad idea. I, for one, will not ship that many eggs for someone else to hatch. Chances of hatching will go down immediately, on the eggs hit the post office.

And if you were to use the eggs as monetary value, you are looking at a bundle - approx $10-$12 per egg ($20+ per bird), and most of those will be scrambled in shipping.

IMHO Relying on the kindness of others in which pay for you to ship, is a much better deal for everyone.
