looking for dust bathing alternative

my chicks are "dust bathing" in the corner of the brooder. (on paper towel.) LOL

Last time I hatched I put a little container in there with sand... they LOVED it. and so did I until the entire main floor of my house had a layer of dust on it. never again. So.... I was thinking...lentils? but then they may try and eat them and die. rice? same thing...

anyone have some ideas?
 
depends on their age, but at about 2 weeks i start putting mine in a wire cage outside during the day when im home weather permitting ... i can scoot the bottom around in a sandy spot to work it up inside and they can just have a ball ...
