Looking for Easter Hatch Buddies!!!

Quote:
If you don't have an auto turner, laying on the side is fine ~ the hen does it that way! Many people use cartons at lockdown to contain the hatch mess and keep the eggs from rolling around. If you use cartons trout the hatch you need to put the point down (air cell up) and you still have to "turn" the eggs by alternating propping up opposite sides of the cartons to keep the embryo from sticking inside the egg. I think that if I didn't have a turner I would only put them in a carton for the last few days when you don't need to turn anymore.

I think I may try to candle a few tonight!!

I am glad I did a preliminary candling.... I had a few roughly handled eggs with broken yolks.

Just a yellow cloud with no definitive edges. They had to exit the bator. However, I thought I saw some veining on others. Day 7 candling this weekend cannot come soon enough IMHO! Yes, the curiousity is intense!

Aussieheeler.... You don't let ANY incubator space go to waste! You go, girl!

Are they all your own flock's eggs? Quite an assortment of breeds....

Thank you Sgtmom52 for answering my question. I think I will put them in cartons on day 14 and lay them on their sides for lockdown. I can't wait til hatch day! Woohoo!

I just did a quick look at about 5 eggs.. I noticed 2 had broken air cells, and definate veining in 2 of them. And the other one just looked clear.

We have 11 chick embryos!!!!!

We thought 3 were no good b/c the light went right through them. So my husband cracks them open in the sink. There were very tiny embryos, they were so tiny. Like they were slow developers, compared to the others. I think they stopped developing and died.

Well, we still have 11 babies growing out of 14 eggs. I'm happy with that number and so are the kids. Thirteen days until LOCKDOWN!!!

Mom2Munchkins, Thirty eggs is a nice number. If we had 30 chicks, my husband would be shaking his head in disbelief.

That would be too many on our small property about a little over an acre with our house, coop, shed & garden.

Good evening! DW and I just did our Day 7 Candling. We have 3 eggs of our own, and 12 that Kandace of greenfamilyfarms sent us. Here are our findings:
(Ours)
EE: Veining and movement!
Phoenix: Veining, could not find "eye" due to shell appearance
Mystery: Veining

(sent)
MD1: clear, detached air cell
MD2: not sure, poss. veining?
1: clear
2: Veining, 1/2 sure
3: Veining (nice, dark lines!)
4: ? Not sure due to shell appearance. It looks to me like a partially porous shell...which made it difficult to see through.
5: Veining, found "eye" but it appears "stuck" as it and the "mass" did not move when I turned the egg.
6: ? due to shell appearance
7: Veining, and great movement! This lil' one was dancing!
8: Veining
9: ? due to shell appearance
? (mystery) Veining, 1/2 sure (think I saw a blood ring, but due to inexperience, not sure)

So, that's where we stand. Bator temps are holding steady around 100, with humidity around 55%.

Well, they are shipped eggs, so you never know. I know I won't get 30, and I KNOW I wouldn't be keeping 30. We have the land, but... I don't know... We won't be keeping that many.
