hello everyone. I am new here and have a 9 week old chicken I'm trying to save. He has an infection and is on antibiotics prescribed by the vet. I am currently having to use a syringe to feed and give him water. I am very worried about not getting enough nutrients to fight this battle. Was looking for advice on how to best feed him. After reading a few posts I am now worried about suffocating him while feeding and hydrating.

Thank you.

Good luck with your bird. Are you giving electrolytes to it? What did the vet say was wrong with it, and what are the symptoms? Will the bird eat on its own at all?

Eyes are swollen shut says he has a bacterial infection. The antibiotics are helping. This morning he has one eye open now. I am giving electrolytes. He will not eat on his own. The vet tube fed him yesterday and we have been trying to feed him. But I worry he's not getting enough food. He gets tired very quickly.

Hi @Chicken_family :frow Welcome To BYC
Did the vet send along the "equipment" to tube feed him at home?
A lot of people make a slurry out of chick feed and tube feed that or you can use something like Kaytee Baby Bird formula to feed him. Getting him hydrated is very important so that would be the first thing to aim for, then add food.
@casportpony has several threads about tube feeding - if you have questions or need assistance, you may find your answers in those threads.

Thank you for all the advice. The chicken passed yesterday. I did all I could but the infection won. It was a learning experience. She will be missed. RIP Snow White.

Oh how sad, I am sorry to hear that. No matter how long they are with you it's hard to see them go. Thank you for trying to help her & continuing to learn.
