For adult chickens, I just dump the fermented feed on the ground. But chicks should have access to feed full-time (or so I've heard) for the first few weeks.

I have been feeding FF to my week-old chicks in a yogurt container lid. The problems are 1) the chicks spill some and 2) they tramp it down so hard that their tiny beaks can't peck it, and they poop in it too.

I'm looking for a DIY feeder that the chicks can't spill or jump in. Ideas? Oh, and does anybody know at what age you can stop offering it as free-choice?

I feed fermented Flockraiser with enough dry crumbles mixed in at serving so it’s moist and crumbly, and served on compostable paper plates. It’s like feeding them on the ground but a bit more sanitary and less feed gets wasted than if they got dry crumbles.
Paper plates is a good idea. Do you have problems with them tramping on it and packing it down?

I use a chick waterer for FF (right side). I fill the base up, but leave the container on so they don't step in it.
