I have not been able to find a good thread/article on chick behaviour and development from week to week. I have 7 mixed breed (copper black maran/amerucana) chicks that are almost two weeks. I am looking for info, about when to introduce roosts, and scratch/dust baths and when to watch for male vs. female behaviours. For example some of them are already chest bumping for status, are these more likely to be male or female?
Thank you!

Both males and female will chest bump.
Check out the Learning Center at the top of the pages and just read threads in the Raising chicks forum.
or use the search function...the advanced search with titles only is the best way I've found to search for a certain subject.
Good Luck have fun with your Olive Eggers!

All chicks bump each other and do the little 2 secant jump fight
and the pecking this is just part of chicken life and I have had
several year old hens chase and fight young roo's as chickens
are just like people ......

Normally I let my chicks go to the growing cage at 4 weeks outside
as we have high temp's here and that is where and when the
dust bathing starts .........

We put roosts in with ours around 1 wk and they started using them right away. Dust baths just started and we are now 5 wks old.
