Looking for info on frostbite

I'm from Ohio and learned about that breed earlier this year. They seem like great chickens for your climate, and they're a heritage breed to boot, originated by a woman in the 1800s. You'd be doing them a huge favor considering the breed is threatened.
A have 3 hens that are poor examples of the breed and on Sunday I got a pullet and cockrel from a breeder who shows them.

How many chickens and how many square feet of ventilation?

Gary
17 chickens. 10x12 shed 7' high ceilings.
Ventilation is a big argument here. I say we need more, spouse says no.
There are 2 4"x10" vents cut up by the eaves. 20x20 pop door. The door for humans is 4' wide. I leave it open during the day for ventilation. Spouse closes it saying they'll get cold. I drilled some holes in the soffit and caught heck for it.

Your spouse is wrong. You need more ventilation, maybe make a screen door using hardware cloth for the human door and leave it open. They will not get cold, they can take it.

Oh I've shown that article countless times.

There is a "wall" of wire already in place, which is why I'm able to leave the coop door open.

Sadly almost all of their combs have now turned white. Some of their tips are cracking and one already has a black tip. More than anything I'm concerned about ensuring they're not going to die as a result of the frostbite. I'll definitely keep applying Vaseline.

Hello Neibour ....I live about 10 minutes from Darwell...I run heat in my Coop..Ventalation is a must..My Coop is not all that warm but my Birds do not get frostbite..It remains around -3 inside...No direct drafts on the Birds..Straw bales around the coop will help as insulation...What breeds are these Birds?

Well howdy! I'm 4km north of Darwell on 765.
I'm off grid solar, so with the sun getting lower on the horizon I really don't have power to spare to the coop.

They're leghorns from the hutterite egg farm in Rochfort Bridge. They were getting rid of their year olds.

I have 12 leghorns, 4 buckeye hens & a buckeye cockrel.
