I am just wondering if there is anyone with new chicks that they won't be willing to sell? We're about an hour west of chicago and are willing to drive. We will only need 4-5 chicks.
I was hoping for speckled sussex, brahma, orpington, or easter eggers... Basically very friendly and good layers, not broody.

You have multiple options since you are in my area, and I'm familiar with what is available.
Just wondering also when are you looking to get them?? now,,, or somewhat later this spring.?
Craig's List Chicago area, does have chicks available. Not always, but when I scan just for fun, do find them.
The feed stores carry baby chicks in the spring time. Some places like Blaine's Farm and Fleet have a 6 chick minimum. There is a reason for that, and it is not that they are trying to push sales.
Post your request on the Illinois thread. I hang there, and know,, some of the peeps in the northern portion of state, as well as Chicago Metro, do raise, and sell chicks.
