I was wondering the same thing, why are they so expensive? You are not guaranteed a bird when you buy an egg, so its really pricey for $10 an egg.
I looked at some of the hatcheries and they aren't that much, but they want too much of a minimum order aka....a $100 order, which is equally nuts if you are just interested in getting started.
any opinions would be welcome.
I'm looking for Mountain or possibly Blue Scale, but I don't know if they would be able to make it up here in the north anyway. We just got rid of our snow about 3 weeks ago.
i would like to try a few. maybe a post to see if a few people would be interested in a group buy? the only drawback would be shipping them to one person then shipping them out separately.
i'll look around. you can get 6 or so on ebay, but then you never know if they'll hatch or not. i'd like to find a reputable grower. time to google!! i'd be happy to split some, and you're not too far from me.
Im in Texas! So the split wouldnt help me at all. Anyone closer to Paradise TX? Just a little information......
Mountain quail live in the mountains of California. So they can stand up to alot of cold weather. We have rough winters sometimes in Texas, and mine do just fine. I keep him on the floor of the coop. He even does well in our very hot summers.
