Looking for new breed

Hello people! I currently show/breed buff Orpingtons and ring-neck pheasants, but I have been looking for a new breed. The buffs are great and I will continue to show/breed them. Although I have been wanting to show another breed. I know I want to start breeding bantams, and I have looked into Dutch bantams, and Speckled Sussex bantams. What are your favorite types of bantams and what makes them your favorite? What is a good beginner bantam breed and what makes that breed a good beginner? Thank you!

I have been breeding silkies for a couple years now, and I personally really love the breed. They're very friendly, which makes them good for showing, and great at hatching their own chicks, which frees up the incubator during spring. One thing I have learned is to really learn the good breeders before getting birds, which is a mistake I made a couple times. But of course, you've probably learned this from the breeding you currently do. A great breeder is Magnolia Silkies, and I am currently trying to get some birds from her.

I also recently started breeding seramas, which I also love. They're super tiny, so easy to make room for, and when hatching them, you'll get all different color varieties. With silkies, I was getting a little tired of the same white feathers, but the seramas have a lot of variety which I love. I'll breed two birds with the exact same colors, and get something completely different. Of course, if you like getting the same color, seramas might not be the best choice. They're also very friendly.

Those would have to be my two favorite breeds out of all the bantams I know much about, although I might be a bit biased. Good luck with your breeding program and finding a new breed!

Nankin Bantams! They are a true bantam, with no large fowl counterpart. They're small, super-friendly, and make excellent broodies and mothers. They are also the foundation of most of the bantam breeds you see around today ... and yet they are critically endangered! Check them out at The Livestock Conservancy website - www.livestockconservancy.org. While you're there, check out the other endangered breeds. If you're going to start a new line, you can make a real difference by helping to save a heritage breed. It's pretty cool!

I have never raised bantams, but have some friends who breed and show all over the country (APA Master Breeders). Silkies are popular, Old English, Seramas, Seabrights and bantam Rhode Island Reds. You can get several breeds in large fowl and bantam.
