looking for new breeds

Sessex are great layer too and are very pretty, even though you may not be looking for pretty.

im just looking for ideas, pretty, good layer or in between. the only thing im not looking for is broody because 3 have stopped laying and are raising chicks

if they go broody occasionally thats not a problem i just need some that lay for more time than they go broody.

Rhode Island Red's rarely go broody and are amazing layers.

How about something laced like a wyandotte?

Wyandottes also don't go broody that often.

Like the calico princess, the sapphire gem is also from hoover's (although, these czhech hybrids may be available elsewhere with similar names). Here are some pictures of the two sapphire gems in with the amberlinks. They were about 10 months when this was taken. They started laying right at 18 weeks and laid very large light tan eggs. They were better in the heat than the amberlinks (bred from hoover's isa browns). They were not as calm as the amberlinks, who would actually come up when I was working and inspect my tools! But they're not flighty by any means. I had to sell the flock due to a family situation, but I'd get these birds again in a heartbeat!

here is my current flock, the birchen cochin, black tailed red cochin and dark brahma are raising chicks. the splash cochin hasnt began laying yet and my oegb is my only layer right now

i was also considering black australorps but i know they go broody pretty often

Well there's your broody problem! Cochins and games love having babies

Seriously my friend, leghorns HARDLY EVER go broody.
