Looking for OLD POST of KITCHEN SURGERY

Oddly enough I ran across that thread this morning. The chicken's name was Hope. I'll check my history...

THAT'S THE ONE!!!!!!

Thank you. I was beginning to think I was imagining it.

Natalie is spending her first night back with her friends. Monarch is beside himself with joy.

The swelling is down. I am letting her body absorb the rest. It will probably take a while for the skin to return to normal. Her feathers down there are growing back. She was happily scratching and pecking and dust bathing this afternoon. This is about when she stopped laying for the winter last year; she did not lay any eggs while we had her inside. I hope this will give her enough time to regroup and start laying again.

Thanks for all your support, AndreaS.

Yay!! I'm so glad she's doing well.

I think one of speckledhen's girls (Ivy, maybe?) who was internally laying actually went back to normal after draining and some of the PenG shots....maybe Natalie will be the same.

That thread is just heartbreaking....Hope was recovering so well...and then to get killed. UGH! I wish there were pictures of the home hysterectomy....i would love to see that.

Glad I was able to help a little! I know Natalie must be glad to be back outside living like a chicken again! Hope she continues to do well!

I forgot about the heartbreaking part. I almost cried again last night.

Some pictures of the procedure would have been great, but the description at least made it clear that it could be done.

I am sick in bed right now, but I will be getting dressed to go out and check on Natalie. Assuming everything is status quo, I will be then getting back in bed.

Have a good day.

Just a quick update.

Natalie is behaving like her old self. She is back to bossing the littlest ones around. I picked her up and turned her over yesterday. The skin is returning to its proper shape and the feathers are starting to grow back in. She does not feel like an under inflated water balloon any more. She complained about being picked up (which she was not doing while she was sick) but settled down after we got comfortable. She has molted so she should not lay any more eggs until the end of January at the earliest. That will give her body time to regroup and be ready for egg production. I will be keeping an eye on her.

Thanks to everyone who helped.
