Fluster Cluck - I also like the base color of your birds. Is the patterning on them different/on different areas because they are male and/or not mature yet? I'm not well versed in male coloration/patterning. I love their little flecks of gold.
It’s all of the above- young and male, combined with the fact that I’m just getting started and learning as I go. I love blue birds- it’s my favorite color- but I’m starting to see that it makes feather patterns act funny.
Here are some updated pics of my Barnies.
This girl is one of the 6 week olds. She’s a silvery-white color- what I expected a splash Barnie to look like.
And just because I thought it was cute, here she is snuggling with Flamingo, my BCM pullet.
This is the splash girl as a chick with a male flock mate who is similar to her in appearance but just like Pablo from my 3-month old clutch, he’s more of a pale silvery blue than white. Although they look similar in the photo, she’s been “whiter” and he’s been “bluer” since hatch. You might notice blue down on his head or back in this photo.
Here is the male now at 3 weeks (again- more blue like Pablo).
I’m very curious as to why/how the colors keep turning up like they do. I thought I understood the BBS color pattern but there definitely more intricate differences than just base feather color at play here.
I didn’t see any current pics of Pablo on my phone but I do have his flock mate Windy. We got a little short on space, so at the moment only Pablo and Windy remain from the 3-month-old cockerel Barnevelder hatch. In the 6-week-old group I have 2 cocks (1 blue, 1 blue or splash) and 3 pullets (1 splash, 1 blue, and 1 black).
I no longer have a rooster of breeding age that I care to pair with my Barnie hens, so I’ve opened up the Cooplex so birds have access to both sides. Misty and Hazy are now mixed in with Flip’s (BCM) flock. He produces speckled egg layers and Hazy lays speckled eggs so

I can make some cool looking speckled egg layers with this cross and I’ll get back to Barbie breeding next year hopefully with some nicer stock to work with.
