Are you able to extend the run? Or put up a cheap chicken wire fence around it until you can get a more permanent fence? At least they will have more space to walk around during the day.

Yes I can do either one of those. Sounds like a plan for now until we build them a bigger coop!

I agree with @Doc7 and @MatthewsHomestead, it's way too small. The coop I linked to only has room for 2 standard sized chickens.

I hate to say it but doc is right. As cute as your setup is I would go bigger for your 6.

The coop is cute for sure, but it needs to be much bigger. Pretty birds too!

X2 it’s really adorable, but there’s a reason my family decided to build our own coop!

Do what Disney does, make your coop look good in front, but practical behind the scenes!

For the time being you can stretch the coop space by turning the entire structure into a coop. Remove what you can of the interior walls so it now becomes one bigger room. Then cover or board up outer walls that face prevailing winds, while leaving the walls that face away from winds open provides ventilation and light. Run a roost lengthwise across the space.

For a run, if you already have plans to fence off an area then maybe do a temporary run out of chicken wire or deer netting or something. It will NOT be predator proof (then again you mentioned wanting to free range in your yard), but it'll give them more space until you can get something permanent in place.

I have the same coop with 4 Golden Comet hens and one Bantam rooster, it is not enough room. I am in the process of building a much bigger coop and run. I decided the little coop would be used for chicks that hatch off in the Incubator and that my big girls will be moved over to the chicken mansion when it is finished.

Since you are so close to us, if you ever want to come out and take a look at our setups just send me a pm. We are about 20-30 mins away depending on which side of MA you live. We are at the very end of Siloam if you know where that is.
