you are correct, fiddle 7'8" studs with a header and footer making it about 7'11" I believe. so you think that is too tall or short?


I guess i was not planning to GO IN and clean, but have an easy access. if it is 3' up, then the floor of the coop would be 5' by 8'. That is 40sq ft which would be enough for 15 birds. are you concerned about the highed inside? this is my first coop and I am new to chickens for sure

I was concerned whether you could reach in enough to scrub the whole thing if you need to. But then I'm only 5'2' and my arms aren't all that long. I like my coops to be walk in coops so that I don't have to crouch on hands and feet in the muck if I need to go in. The height would be fine for the chickens but would not add to the user-friendliness of daily/weekly chores. If you decide to keep the coop portion as is, you may want to think about designing some sort of droppings tray that you can pull out, even if it is in two sections. There are many examples of that in the coop section of BYC.

The 7'11" will not be the height of the coop as it stands because when you tilt the walls it will be about a foot lower. And since it is very narrow at the top it will depend if you can walk in it. See above comment. For me probably fine, for my hubby who is 6'2" not so much.

I won't have time to work on the drawing this week. Let me know by next weekend if you would still be interested.
