Hi everyone, new member here. I joined because I am new to chickens. I live with my wife, two kids and my in-laws. We recently got 7 baby chicks. We got 4 Americana hens and three others from a few different breeds. I work from home in Tech so I'm looking forward to being able to balance that with work. We also just built a coop and are working on putting in the trench around the coop since we have a lot of predators here in East Tennessee (coyotes, bobcats, hawks, etc.). But I'm looking forward to being part of the community and learning more!

Hi :frow welcome and thanks for joining. Not sure what you mean by a trench? An apron of hardware cloth extending out about 18 to 24" is what's often recommended around here, to keep predators from digging. I think usually it's just laid on the ground and covered with gravel but I'm not sure. I don't have one yet so I may be unclear on the details. Anyway good luck with your flock!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. This is a great place to explore and hang out. Hardware cloth not chickens wire will keep birds safe.
