I'm thinking of adding either a Wyandotte, Deleware, Plymoth Rock, or RIR to my two silkies because they go broody all the time.

These breeds should be calm and produce eggs on a regular basis.

I put a request in the buy and sell but I don't think It gets much traffic.
How does one go about mailing a grown chicken?

i know you can order grown chickens from murry mcmurry but the shipping is crazy and i cant see how it could be great for the chickens.

I would suggest you try someone local to you. Other than BYC, you can try breeder organizations, local farms, craigslist and freecycle.

The point of lay pullets that McMurray hatchery sells are Red Star and Black Star sex-link. They don't sell Delaware, Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds or Plymouth Rocks as started pullets.

We ordered started red star pullets from Murray McMurray. They shipped great, but it was very expensive. They layed three weeks after they were shipped and have been laying great ever since. I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking for more eggs.
