Looking for a very small number of (any of the below):

Buff Orpington
Sliver Laced or Blue Laced Wyndottes
Copper Marans
Ameraucana
Cream Legbar
Dominique

Eggs

Or other breeds good for children/but still looking for good egg colors. Hope to hatch and brood over the winter for late spring layers. Sadly most hatcheries are done until spring so I was thinking we may find some here.

Thanks!!

Hi! From what I know on your list, Orps and Ameraucana are great. I have a medium sized flock of ISA Browns and they are fantastic so I wouldn't over look them either. They lay beautiful brown eggs like crazy and they're very friendly and trusting of their keepers. If you can find them near you, I'd give it some serious consideration. I give them two thumbs up :) Good luck!

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

It might help if you put a general location in your profile... Where are you located? That will have some impact on whats available to you.

I breed Marans, but we are mid molt for half my flock right now. I'm in Ca and don't currently ship.

I agree...my ISA Browns are super sweet and laid back! Mine haven't started laying yet.

I’ll have Copper Marans this spring. I was supposed to have Ameraucanas, but the breeder I wanted to buy my stock from had difficulties, so they’ll have to wait for 2019.

If you’re open to suggestions, I’d also recommend looking at Light Sussex. They are beautiful, cold hardy, and approach egg laying prowess of the Leghorns! They are a super breed, and look similar to Dominique. You can read a detailed description of why they’re so great on my website (in my sig).
