Looks like a chick was being formed inside the hen. Laid without a hard shell.

It might be part of her ovary. Has she laid any more eggs since this one? I agree, that is a bizarre one.

Cut it open. The membrane was difficult to break and now I am thinking that this is her ovary. I found it like the original pictures with a bunch of other eggs.

I thought it was a soft shell but that long strip is what I think might have been a shell.
