Hi I am new to BYC an decided to ask you experts for some help,

I have recently hatched 2 chicks and the largest one has a soft bulge beneath its vent that feels and looks like a hernia.
Are these common in poultry? non of my other hens have anything like it

He really struggled to get out of the egg and had amnion stuck to him (on wing and head) as he got very dry, he was exhausted and had pooped inside the egg before he managed to get out.

The chick is eating and pooping ok and has continued to gain weight at a good rate since hatching. We think he may be rooster as he is very upright and has a rooster attitude.

Is the lump likely to improve as the abdominal wall muscle builds? or is it likely to cause problems as he/she grows up.

They are cross breed chickens with a brama father.

He seems really happy, can walk Ok and has no other problems

Hope someone can help

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm sure someone here does. Try posting in the Emergency/Diseases/Injuries and Cures section. Good luck!
