Looks like bottom side of a quail blew out causing the bird to die. Anyone seen this before?

Hello folks. Had a quail hen die today. Looked to me as if the laying end of the hen blew out. I thought maybe it was because I gave them a treat of white bread but not sure. Maybe she died and the other birds pecked at her bottom side. Anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance for any advice.

How old was this hen? Cloacal prolapse is more common in older laying hens but can happen at any age. It can also happen to any egg laying species. I had a tortoise die from it.

I suspect your other quail pecked at the prolapse causing the damage you are seeing. They can't help but peck at something pink or red and once there is a little blood they will really go after it!

Sorry this happened to your hen.
