I know it seems cruel but it’s him or your chickens.

I had a massive infestation of ground squirrels this last year (over 20!). They would actually fight off the chickens to get to their food. Not to mention all the damage they were causing to my trees, vegetation, barns and anything else they could chew on.

I did the same thing, used a small trap and kept a plastic tub full of water handy. I would dispose of the body over my back fence and the next morning, the body was gone. I'm sure the coyotes were happy about what I was doing because they got free meals for about two weeks!

I would rather take on a pack of coons and possum than one nasty, give me the willys, make the hair stand up on the back of my neck rat. I hate those things.
I had a problem with them about three years ago when they redid the sewers on my road.
I too trapped them with a hav a heart but I shot them with my pellet gun.
NASTY CRITTERS.

Okay, he sure is a nasty thing that probably carries disease and is eating your grain or whatnot, I get that...

But man is it cute in that picture looking up at you like "Oh crud I'm in for it now!"

My cat Lizzy is ruthless on ground squirrels and rats. Each day last fall she would bring up 2 or 3, which was good cause DH wasnt real thrilled with her at the time. I just wish she wouldnt leave the skulls on the deck

I have to do a little squirrel eradicating around my place each spring and summer too. I hate doing it but they are such destructive little critters and like Mike said they invade my coop and I have watched them run the chickens off.
I throw them over the back fence and in the morning they are gone. Coon and possum buffet.

cool trapped a big ol'RAT!!! only 75 more to go.....
WHAT you think there is only ONE rat??? hahahahah.. reset the trap,..
and a big bucket of water and 1/2 hour... yup coyotes love the free meal...
