Loose dogs in the country - don't know what to do

Sorry if my sarcasm wasnt gaudy enough.

I agree with protecting livestock, family and all that, but I can't agree when people advocate killing an animal on sight just because it is on thier property regardless of the actual threat.

When people make posts like this;
I've already told my neighbors, "cute little dogie or fuzzy kitty in your yard is your pet, cute little dogie or fuzzy kitty in my yard is a stray and will be shot on sight, lock'm up or lose'm."

It makes me wonder what the motive really is.

Gotcha, Im not one of those who shoot on site, no matter what dog, or what the reason its in my yard. I do have a neighbor that is a problem, and weve got an understanding, if he wants his dogs, he keeps them out of my yard. His dogs have attacked people, hes been sued over it, susposed to keep them up at all times, they have killed many of our animals, birds, goats, etc. So Im not taking any chances with his dogs. But all the other neighbors are very good, responsible pet owners. Hey even my dogs wonder into my neighbors yards every now and then. I wouldnt want them shooting my dogs, just because he was in their yard.

I may get whacked for my opinion but here goes it. I am a firm believer in having pets contained on ones property irregardless of what kind of animal it is, irregarless of how well one thinks their animals behavior is, etc. I have dogs and chickens myself. On occasion animals do escape their enclosures. It happens. But as a rule, my animals are confined on my property and "I" DO NOT ALLOW them to bother other people or animals. And I expect the same from my neighbors and their animals!

i would hate for someone to shoot my dogs...thats why i try very hard to keep them in my yard!....BUT...accidental slip-ups DO happen..its reality...

...and so...if one my dogs got out like once and someone shot them..well...it would not pretty for the person that killed my dog..not at all...BUT...if i continued to be an idiot and let my dogs run loose AND i was warned by someone that they were being a nuisence and or killing things..well....how could i blame someone for shooting them?..

...my neighbors should not have to deal with MY dogs on a continous basis...period....

I was told by my sheriffs dept that I can shoot my neighbors dogs if they are trying to get my chickens, but not if they are just passing through. I am interested in getting an electric fence. I am concerned about smaller animals coming in contact with. Is the shock great enough to kill smaller animals like cats, rabbits, chickens???? I would hate to inadvertantly kill one of my own animals trying to protect others.

SSSing the neighbor may be more efficient. (the proceeding was a joke)

People like you neighbor should be prevented from owning animals.

Oh I do SSS his dogs. Im not taking a chance. To beat it all he picks up strays, brings them home to "take care" of them, but they run loose and he doesnt try to keep them up. And he doesnt care what they do.

Hes been warned numerous times, he will keep them up for a couple of days then theyre out again. So he apparently doesnt care for his dogs and/or anyone else.
