I just received my chicks yesterday from the post office. I picked him up about 8 AM and open the box and I had lost one chick. I put them in a breeder with heat, food, water and lost one this morning. Came home from work and lost two more. And one more looks like not to make it through the night. What is the deal?

I got mine yesterday too. Out of 10 there are only 3 left. One was dead in the box and 6 of them have just dropped off due to being sickly. The remaining 3 seem robust so hopefully there’s no more carnage. This was the replacement shipment for the first group of 10 chicks that all froze to death at the post office. As a first timer I have to say that while I expected a bit of natural selection, losing 17 chicks out of 20 has been a little disheartening. I hope it’s not always like this :(

I lost 4 more this morning- I have 1 strong, very loud, chick and the other won’t make it till Sunday- I expected some loss as well, however losing nine out of 10 birds, which will ultimately happen it’s just a little too much. I thought this would be a fun experience for my family now and honestly it has been a week filled with disappointment. We did everything we thought and had read that we should do and things don’t seem to be working out. We are looking for another family to take the last chick to be with their flock. I am pretty sure we won’t do this again- ☹️

no! don’t give up! usps has had HORRIBLE service with chicks this year, they all probably got too cold

Visit your local feed store. Ours has had chicks for a while now.

Post office - They cannot tell you your chicks will be fine. We ordered in 2012 all made it except one. Two weeks later another one. We only lost two when we ordered.

One good thing about feed stores is you can look at the chicks and if they are moving around full of energy, clean area and water and feed those ones will make it. Most chicks I see at our feed store is full of energy just zipping around with the other chicks.
