Hi!
One of my hen sems to be going through a rough patch with floppy pale comb, dirty vent and is listless as if she cannot be bothered. She is still eating OK albeit less. The eyes are not their usual alert self.

I think she is about 2 years and is free range, fed on pellet and nature bounty. I cannot spot her poo but I have not noticed anything unusual. The weather hads turned very hot very suddenly - could this be the cause?
The other ones are fine, not a bother on them...
What could be with my hen? Any remedy (preferably natural?)
Thanks for your suggestion,
Natalie

We had an unusual period with temps in the 90's back in April. A couple of my hens looked a little droopy but one in particular acted just like you describe.

I ended up pulling her out and placing her in the 'sick ward' I have set up in my basement. She stayed down there (where the temp was about 60 degrees), drank some water with electrolytes, and perked up come evening time. I carried her back outside and put her on the roost and over the next couple of days she seemd to totally receover just fine.

Since we didn't even have leaves on the trees yet, I placed a tarp over most of their run to provide some shade. Also changed out there water a couple of times per day.

Hope this helps.

Hi, she has been isolated, given stuff for worm, protected from sun etc, she is not moulting but going down hill rapidly. She does not seem to be able to carry her own weight anymore, totally despondent and feels like jelly. She has not eaten this morning. None of the other hens are showing any signs of illness or anything... Oh dear, what is happening?
