My friend and I once tried to watch all three of the extended editions (4 hrs each) in one night, and we fell asleep around 5 AM of pure mental exhaustion. I love these movies, but they are SOOOOO STINKIN LONG!

And for the length one would have expected more verbatim Tolkien.

my favorite one is the making-of series. if @M-H-Fielding hasn't watched it yet... you don't know what your missing. it has so much cool stuff inside! how they made robotic walking forests with seats in one of the trees, or how they made hobbit feet, or how they made hobbit holes, or how they hired the guys on the local ranches to be in that one scene that they needed skilled horse-back riders. it's absolutely wonderful!

Yeah, The Two Towers was my favorite because it went right into the action without exposition, but it was safely far away from the inevitable ending.
