Just wondering if I need to invest on any heating system for the coop?? I remember the coldest night was around high 30s and low 40s last year. Will they be ok without any heater?

I live in Palmdale area. It HOT in summer time and COLD in winter time. My past chicken survived fine in a open air style coop.

The only thing I had to pay attention is to make sure their water bowl didn’t freeze or break up and remove the ice layer of their water bowl. The most tedious work ever. lol

Chickens -- with the exception of baby chicks, and the possible exception of very small bantams and birds with non-standard feathering -- are usually fine all the way down to 0F as long as they are dry and out of the wind.

They're wearing built-in down parkas, after all. :)

I live in the mountains in So Cal where it snows, my chicken house linked in my profile is very open air. I brood chicks under a heat plate in the coop in the spring with overnight temps in the 30's Otherwise no heat. I do need to take steps to keep the water from freezing.
