Oh Christ! This is terrible news! And MN won't have the "advantage" of the furnace-like heat that slows the progression of the virus.

My fingers are crossed for the poultry keepers in MN!!! I just hope you don't get the people slowing down the efforts at containment.

I heard a story from Ghana on BBC--where the government is providing free Newcastle vaccine to all chickens. In the district the reporter was in, over 10,000 people had signed up for the program.....the farmer being interviewing has 50 chickens.

Maybe they sourced the chicks locally? I’ve heard TSC and other farm stores doing that on occasion.

They shouldn't have.
They didn't follow the damn rules.

I don't know!!!! But there are people out there that still don't know about this disease ( I know I was shocked when I heard this.) There is still people trying to move chicks and chickens on facebook. Obviously when they post on the sites that I am on they are shot down but I can't imagine all the others that are moving without being stopped. Then there are people that know but think the rule doesn't apply to them.

I wish they would fine these people! They don't even say which store was caught!

Yes there are clear prohibitions and stiff fines for non-compliance but on my neighborhood forum I see people looking for poultry or looking to rehome poultry at a rate of about 1 a month. And we're probably in one of the very low poultry density areas.

I explain the quarantine and the potential fines. They usually manage to accomplish whatever it was they had in mind.

I had hoped the extended heat we've had was also acting as a control.

Well, it all just seems kind of strange... They are saying it was a "routine biosecurity check"? Why did this feed store have birds for sale in a quarantine area??? You can't sell birds without moving them! They are located right in the middle of what could be called ground zero! But no one finds out until now???

So it seems it was a pet store in Bloomington. Supposedly found through random inspection.
