LOS ANGELES county CA under bird quarantine :(

Well, I have read the press release, perhaps negotiations are in order, but I think it is too soon. If it all blows over now, they will just go back to the way it was. What I really want is accountability for the unjustified, disrespectful, inhumane treatment of law-abiding citizens and the poultry/pets they care for. If they had been upfront in their dealings with the public, properly trained the selected employees they sent to peoples houses, and properly supervised these operations, no lawsuit would have been filed. And, if they had reacted more quickly and done more sooner, most likely it would be over by now... I don't think that truly humane treatment of people and the animals they care for is too much to ask. Instead, what was served up was lies, manipulation, and untrained, sadistic, personnel, with either no knowledge of biohazard techniques, or no interest in practicing them because they are more motivated to extend the duration of their temporary employment. Perhaps Ms Jones has too much going on at her personal farm to properly devote time to her government job... I have to wonder if she has ever left Sacramento during all this.

I guess I wonder if the same activities that occurred at Kerris place are continuing elsewhere. If so, is there additional video?

As for cats and dogs this kind of action isn't generally taken because they are usually vaccinated and there is no commercial dog industry that diseased animals can disrupt. Also cats and dogs are classified as domestic pets, not livestock as poultry are.

But let's take rabies for example because it is a fatal disease in almost every case. It has a wild vector in raccoons, bats, coyotes, foxes, etc. You are legally obligated to vaccinate your dog against rabies.

If your vaccinated dog bites someone he will be quarantined without question for at least 10 days and observed for symptoms. Most likely he is fine and you will just have to deal with other issues with the dog bite victim.

But let's say you don't have him vaccinated. Maybe you don't believe in dog vaccines like human measles anti-vaxers or you are just lazy and irresponsible. It happens. You are in violation of the law, but so what? And you let him run loose and he bites someone. No 10 day quarantine here. He will be euthanized and his head sent to UC Davis for a rabies test. Yesterday if possible. Because dogs can be motivated to bite due to rabies infection and no one is going to let that go since rabies is almost 100% fatal. Most likely he did not have rabies.

The treatment for rabies exposure is long, painful and very expensive.
So who is going to demonstrate to save a dog that bites people and carries the possibility of spreading a disease that is fatal to humans? Most people seem to understand that in adopting a domestic pet we have a responsibility to them and society not to spread diseases to everyone else's domestic pet or humans.

Another example of owner responsibility is the Coggins test for horses. My horses can stay at their same barn for their whole lives pretty much without being tested for Coggins disease. But if we want to take them from one state to another they need to show they are negative for Coggins disease. We moved three horses from California to Oregon but only after they tested negative. This was in January. We live so close to Washington state we can almost see it from here but our horses can't go there without another valid negative Coggins test. My husband missed an event he wanted to go to because the vet wasn't able to come out in time. Should we demonstrate and demand our responsibility to our horses and everyone else's horses be ended because we love our horse like we love our dogs? The consequences of a positive Coggins are either euthanasia or lifelong complete quarantine from other horses.

So. I don't agree at all how Kerri 's livestock were killed based on the video, but I do not in any way disagree with the reason or the concept of accepting responsibility to a greater society when you bring a nonhuman animal into your life.

The more you look into this, the more inconsistencies you find.

Here's the inconsistency I see. They say the disease is spreading and is lethal within a few days. Yet we don't here about this on BYC. If it really was spreading into areas they haven't surveyed yet, birds would be getting sick and dying and we'd be hearing about it here from concerned owners. But we're not. So they go into an area, kill some birds, test them and find some positive for NCD antibodies, and say the disease has spread into that area, then expand the kill zone, rinse and repeat. Those birds that tested positive were probably healthy and immune to NCD (that's what antibodies indicate). Eventually they find no more positives, stop and declare the virus eliminated. But they haven't tested outside the kill zone to be able to know whether not there are birds there that test positive. That's why I think this is to some degree an "outbreak" caused by surveillance and a flawed paradigm that equates antibodies with disease.

And the fact that they claim that the disease is easily spread but the CDFA dumps the dead birds in the municipal landfill.
Something, by the way, that is illegal for all the rest of us to do... But they will take CDFA's supposed sick chickens.... They claim that the virus can't replicate in dead birds, but if they are exposed and sick, the virus has already replicated and is there. There is no data given on how long it can survive in a dead bird at all. But if it is virulent enough to survive on shoes (as it must be, otherwise how are the commercial housed chicken facilities getting infected), it can certainly last longer than that in a warm carcass. Long enough to be eaten by seagulls and spread all over. The virus is apparently killed by sunlight, but the garbage bags will keep that from happening. I believe in the disease and I believe that it kills, and this is supposed to be a particularly virulent strain. But it is also clear that the protocols and techniques they have implemented are not working, as you can see from the blossoming red dots on the map. They need to re-evaluate/refine the strategy, retrain the employees, or something. You know the saying "doing the same thing over and over and getting the same poor results" is the definition of stupid. And when the process includes killing peoples pets, you should be able to reach that conclusion without a lawsuit, really. But since they haven't and apparently can't or won't...

An elderly woman in Romoland (near Perris) yesterday had CDFA/USDA personnel roll up to the property and rattle her locks. The woman, frightened, called 911. Her neighbors outside--two women with kids-- observed this and walked over. CDFA took off without talking to the woman. Her daughter came on and said her mom is older, not on FB, but that she welcomed community support.

Today, cdfa rolls up on this woman with NINE HIGHWAY PATROL CARS ro break her locks with a warrant that didn't even have her name on it. The woman, in her 70s, is sequestered in her house with her own mom, in her 90s as her neighbors--personal friends, not fb friends--call out, "Are you ok [name]?" The neighbors tell chp that if they are there to kill chickens, they're not impeding them, but they just want to see if this grandma and her mom are ok. Several minutes pass before chp agrees to relay the message. Keep in mind that at a recent house visited, the owner fell down and seized in her own driveway while the CHP did not render aid.

This situation is still unfolding, and I expect to be updating this post. That said--and this observation goes directly to those who feel SOB are troublemakers, that women should put their "big girl" panties on when confronted by multiple males--I'm gonna ask you, what makes this remotely acceptable even given your view? This is a lady who is almost 80 taking care of her even more elderly mom. The lady was too frightened--or made too frightened--to come to her own gate when NINE PATROL CARS showed up to assist CDFA. These weren't just rando people who showed up, these include her personal neighbors that she had met personally and wanted help from. I have watched most of these kill videos but find the manhandling of the elderly especially disturbing.

The latest fb live video is available here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SOB...560280212428500&notif_t=group_comment_mention.

The matter is under live discussion here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SOBSaveOurBirds/

I just watched the replay of this live...
This Kerri Hand lady is ridiculous. Looks like all she likes to do is talk ugly about people and demand stuff for no reason but to cause trouble.:th

I wouldn't want to be a part of any 'group' she is invloved with.

What an embarrassment.

Kerri wasn't on the latest video.
At the time of my post I watched Kerri Elaine's latest video... actually her two most recent ones..which clearly shows her making fun of people's weight and appearances. Ridiculous.
