Losing another hen to this awful heat

I first raised chickens in Austin, many, many years ago. I put a bag or block of ice in a container and set up a box fan to blow across it, toward the pen. Worked great and I wasn't violating the water rules. Their pen was under a huge pecan tree.

I wasn't able to put the pen under the oak tree because of being too close to the neighbors house.

I would have loved to put it there. I like the idea of the bag of ice. I may put it in the coop as I already have the box fan blowing in there.

I'm so sorry Kat.

My pens are under trees but it's still so darn hot here. I spend so much time outside spraying goats, llama, and chickens. I'm constantly changing water to keep it cool, changing out the frozen water bottles, spraying the pens, changing out wading pools/pans. The worst ones of mine that seem to be affected are the silkies and the cochins. On super hot days, I bring them in the house into their "play pens" in a spare bedroom with the a/c. Morganna my blue cochin is super fluffy and it hits her so hard. She was limp the other day when I brought her in. She felt the a/c and flattened with wings spread. I gave her some electrolytes and she's fine now.

I have all my misters and fans running. Some fans are blowing over a large tub of ice. But the ice melts so quick here. I'm ready for fall. I hope next summer isn't as bad as this one.

Thanks y'all.
Other than lots of water, frozen ice bottles, shade and fans I'm not sure there's anything to be done. The SFs are the ones that really don't seem to be handling this heat well. They did okay last summer, but it wasn't quite this hot.

Was saving for something else, but I guess a pen for the boys will have to take priority.

I just saw this. So sorry Gritty. I know you were attached to Doe.
If I could I'd send you some cooler weather.
