Losing another hen to this awful heat

Yes the heat is hard on all animals & the drought we are having hurts the farmers. But whats really gonna sux is the trees will start dieing. The trees are something that could die two are three years from now . The stock tanks around here have almost all dried up. Its unreal. We rely on the hay to pay our taxes it ain't happening I doubt will get one cutting. Please pray for rain .

Approx. 60 acres of this farm we lease to a neighbor for grazing and hay. In addition he leases pasture all over the county. He got two cuttings off this place before it turned so dry, but I recall him saying that he was still short from last winter. I've seen the trucks loaded with hay headed towards Texas, but soon there won't be any to ship. At least our larger pond is still looking good, for now. It has to rain sooner or later, it just has too.

My brahma girls spend all day standing in the mud, my younger flock spends all day under an outbuilding. My feed bill is higher because no one is foraging.

It might rain but we are so far behind. We have been under a burn ban this whole year. I have no trash service so I need to burn badly.

I lost a baby cochin today myself. This heat here in Ga. is awful!!!! I just try to run a small fan in the barn and make sure they have plenty of fresh water. Good luck.

We are terrible, even up here at 2000 ft in the N. Ga mtns. Protracted hot, super humid periods are not what my birds are used to and I am afraid that the ones who are already suffering from other issues will be the first to go, like my older ladies who are laying internally. I feel for the farmers who rely on favorable weather conditions for their livelihood. I have awful headaches in this type weather. Most summers, we don't even have to turn on the A/C, but this one will see much higher electric bills because I can't deal with this unusual weather. We've already had a month and a half of what is usually a one or two day high temp in the worst part of summer here. It's brutal.

Right now, it's about 80 degrees at 9:40 a.m. and the humidity is 94%. High will be 91*, real feel will be 103*. And that is the way it's been for weeks now. We can't take much more of it, but guess we have no choice.

I built my hens a run and they like it when I put an attachment on my hose and like it when i mist them... maybe the rest of your hens/roos will like to be misted... It helped mine cool off!

We're staying over 100* - actual temp. - every day, with August still to come. The rest of the brahma girls are handling it. The younger flock seems to be having more trouble.

All I want is some rain.

It's the humidity that is killing us, not just the temps. The temps don't sound bad, but if you add over 90% humidity, it's hard to breathe. I think birds get used to a certain climate, like my friend Ellie in CA with temps over 110, but with only 20% humidity. She installed misters, which helps her birds, but why add wet to wet, like for us here in GA? We need to dry out to feel more comfortable. I've lived out west three times and it makes a stunning difference, this high humidity vs low humidity.
