There is so much bad news every day; illness, death, discord. Each morning our day begins with Buster and me going out to let the girls out. They greet us with soft little clucks. They would get a treat in the form of mealy worms or sunflower seeds. After checking their water and food, we would go back in. They would happily start their scratching.

When it gets hot, they take their dirt baths, which is hilarious. I make sure they get high quality feed and oyster shells. I give them leftovers, and grow them greens and flowers. Chickens don't bother anyone, my girls have their own little space with lots of shade and they are treated very special.

Today I went out and found my pretty blue Ameracauna girlie, Wendigo, dead. All I could do was cry. I went in to tell Kenny and he came out. Something got in their coop. I could see where whatever it was, got through the hardware screen. She put up one hell of a fight and I am sure, being the alpha, she saved her sister girlie. I am sure Matilda kept whatever it was from taking Wendigo off.

My day is less bright this morning. My chickens make me smile and laugh at their antics. When I get particularly down, I can walk out and watch them. They just make me happy, not because they give me pretty eggs, but, because they are funny.

In this uncertain world, especially now, somehow, they gave me hope. Now what do I do? I am so sad...

:hugs Fortify things to protect the rest as the predator will return. Me, I would make plans to remove the predator.
Thank you. I put out a live trap and one big, fat possum is now residing elsewhere. I fixed where it got in and fortified the coop. I only had two girlies we found some three week old chicks so Tillie will have some friends soon.
