Lost 52 today..

If it were me...I would file a claim through your homeowners against the neighbors homeowners. Much easier than enduring all the legal mess yourself. Let the insurance co.'s fight it out. This is what I did a few years ago when I had a $9000.00 property damage claim against one of my neighbors.

She's broke, has nothing and no homeowners. Our homeowners will only cover loss on the structure and contents unfortunately. We live in a mobile home. Shoulda started on building that house by now we'd be better off! But no... I spend all my money on chickens! LOL! They live better than me!)

Thanks everyone for the support! The news picked this up because they did a feature on my farm this summer. Kinda like the "little engine that could" my farm was making it! We're going to rebuild, thanks to friends that are sharing fertile hatching eggs with us. My friend Diane has agreed to hatch a batch for us. We have 25 eggs so far... hoping to get to 40! Another friend has offered an incubator.. so we may be ready to start selling eggs again before next fall. THANKS AGAIN everyone, the support makes me feel stronger in this fight!!!!

In my opinion your issue is not getting a few eggs for free to replenish your flock. It is an omnipresent predator that you WILL not remove... Your "poor" neighbor should not own animals of ANY type if he/she cannot abide by rules. Her/His dogs should either be removed from his/her property or destroyed. I am a very open minded soul, but to let your livelihood or food supply go to waste due to a neighbors inaction is wrong in all respects. Heck!! And I am from Massachusetts the land of anything goes!!!!

We'll be ok, we'll get back on track by next fall. You're right, I only want to vent and hopefully be an example to others. (be it good or bad! LOL)

Thank you for checking out my articles. Yes, we managed to get a lot of press time this year for the "little patch that could" (kinda like the little engine ya know! hehe!) We had a beautiful flock, so very happy. If you'd like to see my baby girls in action, here's a much better link from happier times.

The last time this happened, (in July her dogs got 23 of my hens) I went to her address and noticed that the REACH camp workers were helping to remodel her mobile home. That told me that she was obviously at poverty level if they were there. I decided to talk to her, ask her nicely to keep the dogs contained and offered to help her get fencing for them. She said No Thanks. I offered her a 10x12 dog pen that we had used for our chickens when they first get to go outside in the yard. Nope. I offered to get her a nice run and leashes. NOPE. She just didnt' care. I chose though to take the high road and not persue a lawsuit. This time, she once again just didnt' care. It'll take a long time to get through the courts, and I'm sure I'll never see a penny.. but that's how things go.

There is no reason for people to allow their pets to destroy your beloved pets. I have a reputation in my neighbor hood as "The lady that will shoot your dog, if it so much as looks sideways at my chickens!" I am really so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how you must feel. I hope you fry those people with a lawsuit.
Sincerely, Bunny
