lost another chick

They do not have coccidiosis.  There's no bloody droppings.  And they've been on medicated feed from their first bite of food.  Their brooder is dry and bedding is completely changed every 3 days.

You mentioned in your first post you were feeding them Dumor feed. TSC only has 2 types of Dumor starter that I know of 20% & 24%. Neither of which is medicated. I didn't think they made a medicated feed. Guess you have it covered

An easy way to be sure it's not coxy is to take a stool sample in to your vet, it's a very easy test to do and probably wouldn't cost you much. They could also check for other intestinal parasites at the same time.

So sorry to hear. We're in the same boat--lost two chicks in the past 24 hours. We received them from Meyer's on the 17th of April. One of them had symptoms of Marek's. The other just got super lethargic and died. We're heartbroken, and have one sad little chick left who is fine so far *knock wood.*

So sorry for your losses. It is never easy.

We got three orders from Meyer last year, and lost 3 chicks of the same breed. They arrived the morning after they were shipped. The first died just 8 hours after arrival. The second the next day, and the final one on day 6. Meyer shipped replacements for the first two, but not the final one, but I did call them about the final death because it seemed like a problem with one breed batch. All other chicks in that order were healthy, and we have only lost one to egg peritonitis at age 6 1/2 months.

Of the second order, 3 weeks later, one of seven had pasty butt when it arrived (day after shipping again). We spent hours over 10 days on that chick, he turned out to be our roo for that order. He is a healthy rooster today. Without the diligence on our part he would have been a goner. All of that order are healthy today.

The final order was and still is healthy.

I believe that when a young chick dies of unknown causes it is often something related to the health of the parents, the incubation, and/or internal health, that on the surface is not evident.

Your care sound right on target. Good luck with the rest of your flock.

You might try adding chick grit even if the food doesn't require it. It could help in better utilizing the nutrition in the food. In theory, they could be eating enough but not getting the nutrition out of the food

So what are you having for your new order of chicks
They're replacing what we lost within the 48 hour time frame: 3 buff orpingtons, 2 RIR's, and our surprise chick had passed in transit and i wasn't totally sure what it was so they let me pick what i wanted it to be from the breeds i had ordered so i'll be getting another ameraucana. They're being shipped with my original order of 4 buff brahamas and a surprise chick.

My son is begging terrible for a few sliver-laced wyandotte's so i may see if i can add a couple to my july order. He calls them "hawaiiandot" chickens. lol!

My ducks are being fed the DuMor. Sorry if i was not clear. IT was one of the only differences in how i'm caring for the chicks versus the ducklings.

So sorry you are having trouble too. Our's got vaxed for Marek's, did yours? When i looked in my book the other night the only symptoms that fit the one who died on sunday night was Pullorum, but Meyer's is supposed to be a Pullorum-free establishment and so far (knock on wood and prayers sent) nobody else is acting sickly. This one had had pasty butt when she got to us so maybe she was just weak from the get go and finally sucumbed?
